Alabama

Jacksonville

I came to Jacksonville, Alabama for an audit client I had. It was a really nice and cute little southern town. The town is home to Jacksonville State University.

We ate at a delicious deli for lunch called Momma Goldberg’s Deli. Apparently it is a chain restaurant, but they have grilled deli sandwiches. I personally really enjoyed the grilled chick breast with melted mozzarella cheese, lettuce, and honey mustard on a toasted bagel. I would definitely get this sandwich again.

Anniston

While on the plant visit in Jacksonville, we stayed at a Courtyard Marriott in Anniston, Alabama. The downtown area was surprisingly really large, but it also looked like it had a lot of vacant buildings, which was really sad. We found this amazing brewery called Cheaha Brewing Company. It is a brewpub that is in an old train station building. They had a great food selection, and of course a great beer selection. A flight of beer was only $7; we couldn’t believe how much beer we got for so cheap. The beer was delicious as well. The Model City Hefewisen was a wheat flavor beer with orange aromas. They serve it with an orange in it as well. The beer was so great, and it did not leave that beer taste in your mouth at all. So refreshing.

Birmingham

Birmingham was only an hour away from where we were staying, so we made the trip one evening for dinner. I wanted to see the largest city in Alabama.

Vulcan Statue

Vulcan, the Roman god of fire and forge, watches over all of Birmingham as a symbol of the city’s iron origins–and the ever-present spark of its indomitable spirit.

Dreamland BBQ

Dreamland BBQ is known for their famous ribs. Needless to say, they were gigantic ribs! The place was packed, and it had a very fun southern BBQ environment.

Five Points South

Five Points South is a popular district in downtown Birmingham. We walked around and ate at the Highlands Bar and Grill. It has been featured in multiple publications such as The New York Times Magazine, Esquire, etc. The menu promises delicious food, and they have over 300 types of wine. The place was packed with an older classy crowd.
